Caroline
Fraser
Caroline Fraser is an award winning abstract landscape photographer and book artist. She worked as a GP for 35 years, taking up photography after treatment for breast cancer in 2006.
She completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Photography at Central St Martins, London in 2011, and achieved an Associateship of the Royal Photographic Society in 2010. Working from her studio at Rye Creative Centre, she runs hand-made book and photo book making workshops ‘Say it with Books’, both in-person and online.
Caroline’s photographic work is a response to the beauty and infinite variety of nature, coupled with a concern for the environment. Her quiet representations of mood and location place an emphasis on the intimate details within nature, using abstraction and layering. A recent project, ‘Shore’, explored the beach at Camber Sands from an environmental perspective.
Her love of remote landscapes has taken her to the highlands of Scotland, Iceland, New Zealand, Greenland, and many times to Vancouver where her children live. She adds meaning to her work by combining images and words in limited edition handmade books.
Exhibiting widely in the UK, she has been featured in On Landscape and Outdoor Photography magazine. She has undertaken artist residencies in Switzerland, Wales and Vashon Island, Seattle. She is winner of the non-professional ‘abstract and still life’ category of the Julia Margaret Cameron Awards 2024.
